It does improve quality of life: Russia didn't had many hospitals and modern medicine, USSR fixed this. Russia didn't had many schools, USSR did. Only 10% of Russian population lived in the cities, 60-70% in the Soviet Union. During 30s, Soviets had longer life expectancy than Americans for example(source: wikipedia).

This is how Stalin ensured population support. Maybe it was just humane thing to do, maybe just political stunt. It is fun to think about it.

Yes, USSR experienced economic problems at the end, that is a fact. Problem was not extreme, but not easy either, let's say medium, but Nationalism is what destroyed the country, not economy, everyone wishing to be the king of his village, no matter how small and insignificant it is. Economic problems were created due to companies being owned by the State, which couldn't fire or punish workers, this is fundamental flaw in Communism.

There is no concensus how many people died of famine(s) without adding political bias. Probably between 500,000-3 million, because more of that would be shown in the annual demographics (minus should be visible).

Genocide means killing one ethnic group in their native location, USSR didn't do that, German Reich did and openly talked about it during speeches. Soviet enemy was the class, not people, therefore political killings, not genocide.

Numbers vary from 20 million to 40 million to 100 million, which is a joke. People would rebel against such policy and win their freedom. But they didn't, because not many were killed (still more than in capitalist countries), between 500,000-5 million. Simply it is not possible to kill 40 million people in a country with 160 million and still end up with 290 million people 50 years later... having 5 million abortions each year.
Did Soviets had 15 children per family so that's how they replaced the dead and doubled the population? No, Communists promoted modern families, with 1-2 children. Population growth was natural.

Just like any historical nation: Soviet Union was very extreme in beginning, killing everyone who oppose it, then becoming softer each year. For example during Invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, Moscow protesters were just arrested, not killed. All until Gorbachev Era, when everyone could do and talk whatever they want without repercusion, police and KGB didn't care anymore. Even fascists created their parties at this time.

All this is just history, without politics. Soviet Union is painted dark by the United States due to Cold War. You have to paint your enemy evil so you can have excuse to fight him. Especially when you fight him for decades and people might wonder why so long. For example i just watched London has fallen movie and even there they had to mention Russia in negative light (british minister telling Russians ain't coming and no one cares). That creates negatives opinion about your enemy in peoples minds, and after a long time this becomes natural to people, they accept it.

Rome did this to Carthage, Greece to Persia, Saracens to Crusaders, it is not first time, and won't be the last.

I've been reading what 'ideology' is closest to my opinion, and it's probably German 'Ordoliberalism' [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordoliberalism] Means the State must help the economy to achieve full pontential (if something can be produced/built in the country, then it should).

Norwegian style is also close to my views: the State must ban or tariff foreign import IF Norway can produce or built same thing locally. Meaning Norway imports only stuff they can't produce themselves.

But i still support nationalization/collectivization of agriculture and industry during the war. For easier spam of food and guns. Land and companies must be returned to owners after the war.
