I know there is a thread going for the basic Attack/Defend units, but I think the game deserves a few support units to add depth to your experience.

I base this off of Anti Air and the Sentry Plane, both of which have limited, strategic uses.

If you have any other ideas, post them here. I understand that some things simply cant be coded in easily, but if we mention them now, at least they are out there for Amok and Ivan to consider.

The Captain:
A infantry "unit" with no attack or defense, but instead operates as a motivator for offensive troops, giving plus 1 attack to each unit in the stack. The down side to this is while he is in the stack, the units all move at his speed, and lose one defense.

The Smuggler:
Often players want to cripple their foes reinforcements, but it is very difficult to cripple them economically. The Smuggler is sent to a rivals city, and when he arrives reduces the monetary value of the city to 25% of its current worth, which last 3 turns. Does not stack. The Smuggler is a stealth unit with no defense or attack, and if discovered can be killed by anything.

The Broadcast Station:
Acts as a defensive boost in the city (+1 per unit, up to 10 units) but is incredibly expensive, and drains 10% of that cities monetary worth. The Broadcast station has 0 defense itself, so if the city is taken or bombed, it is destroyed.

Land mines:
I've seen this mentioned prior, but it could be developed further. Land mines act as a deployable defensive line, just like infantry, but are in stealth mode. They have 6 defense against land units, and -6 defense against aircraft (as aircraft can fly over them.) Land mines have 0 movement, and must be placed by an aircraft carrier or an APC (assuming they ever make it in game) Land mines take one turn to "Prime" and can be seen easily from sentry planes, making them better as a area denial tool then a city defense tool.

Nuclear Weapons and Counter-Measures:
There have been threads regarding this, and I will compile the info from them onto this thread, but until I edit it, here's a simple, balanced way (in my view) to implement nukes without crippling the game.

Building a Nuke is expensive, a whopping 10,000 coins (Dollars, Euros, Gold Bricks, whatever) and a public alert in the game chat that "X has completed a Nuclear Weapon." Not only does this alert the rival teams, but warns allies. Nukes are flown in a unique plane (With a limited movement speed, about at the upgraded infantry movement speed) and has 0 defense, but 500 attack. The Nuke can be escorted, but the speed of the nuke will significantly slow the process to the front lines.

(I'd like to point out that 500 is an arbitrary number that can be replaced with anything that suits "Eradicate")

Now, a Nuke is on the way. What do you do? Simple. You build a Satellite Unit. Satellite units are visible sentry planes, and everything within their field of view is +500 defense from attacks by Nuclear weapons. (Effectively making the nuke worthless. In reality, it blew up the nuke, but from a coding perspective I'm sure this is easier)

Now, if a nuke hits a city, and survives (IE: No Satellite) the city is eradicated. Money made is reduced to 0, Reinforcements per turn reduced to 0, nothing. Control can still be made (so if you bomb a territory that acts as a capital and you can still control the territory), but for the remainder of the game it is worthless from a practical perspective.



These are just a few ideas, and I realize a great deal of discussion and balance is needed with each of them, but I'm happy to hear any thoughts on these ideas, or your own! I'll be updating this thread with a list of all the support unit ideas for easy access, as we go along.

Yea, I feel similarly, but its hard to balance something that is so one sided, you know?

I like especially like the land-mines idea, and the nuke idea.
The satallite could probably use some tweaking, and APCs and aircraft carriers would be amazing @__@

Yea, I understand you. The whole nuke thing should really be thought about carefully. I think it could really alter gameplay for better or worse. I guess we will see!
