Really im not sure how hardcore gaming you mean. I can game just fine with a regular laptop and It works just fine. Anything that is fast and smart is fine tbh.

Bang for the buck is a desktop for sure. You can get a low-end PC (make sure you can upgrade it) and put a larger power supply and good GPU in it.
When you buy a laptop for gaming, you're essentially stuck with the onboard graphics.

Too expensive and very stupid. Laptop + desktop here would be 900-1k. So why get both, when you can get a very good laptop or desktop?

I assume you want a PC specifically for gaming? If that's the case, I'd go for a Laptop personally. Mobility is best trait.

Not everyone has that kind of money, and, knowing him personally, he doesn't give a shit about high-end graphics, only playability. Also: Using a Tablet or Smart Phone for gaming is like (as my friend Greyson Chance would say) using a banana as a dildo. Sure, it fits in there, but it feels stupid, and doesn't really seem enjoyable.

Building your own gaming pc (individual parts, but it together yourself) is the best way to go.

Listen to me, laptops aren't worth the money and worse if it is for gaming :S
Like most of people say, build your own or get someone to do it.
Not to mention it's harder to play with laptops even if you get a mouse ;_;
